Learn to Fly — Foo Fighters

This week’s playlist

Those who follow me on Instagram know what a big fan I am of the Foo Fighters. They’ve been my favorite band since I was a little girl, so it surprised me when it was brought to my attention that some think of them as a “Dad Band.” They clearly have no idea what they are missing.

When my mom was pregnant with me, she and my dad went to The Pantages theater in Los Angeles to see the Foo Fighters play an acoustic concert. Since it is a theater that typically plays are performed, they knew they’d be seated the whole time, and it was a safe show for a pregnant person to enjoy.

The minute the show was over, I was back in action flopping all over the place. When I was born, my parents would play all sorts of music for me, but lucky for them, the actual Foo Fighters concert we were at was released on CD. It was all I would sleep to, and for two years it was on repeat every night at bed time.

As I got older the only things I would watch on TV were Yo Gabba Gabba! and Foo Fighters videos on loop, because of my love for their music and their videos made me laugh, my parents slowly became fans as well. They even got to be on stage with them for the taping of the Foo Fighters episode of VH1 Storytellers which I think is hysterical when I see them on TV behind Dave and Taylor.

Coco + Dave

The first time I met Dave Grohl, I told him my favorite song was “Skin and Bones” and he knelt down and told me when I was old enough to come to a show, he would play it live. Well, guess what? My first Foo Fighters show, he did!

I’ve been to see the Foo Fighters five times already, and not only did I have the courage to watch the concert from the front row rail, but I got to sit in the throne he used on the “Break a Leg” tour when he broke his leg. And I even “beat the bots” when I stood in line at the Honda Center to buy tickets to my very first Foo Fighters concert!

Not to get off topic, but Dave Grohl even started his own BBQ business and just like him, it’s awesome. Make sure to try some Backbeats BBQ if you get the chance!

Foo Fighters — Honda Center

Foo Fighters songs make me happy, and in honor of Dave Grohl’s 50th birthday this week, my playlist is made of my favorite Foo Fighters songs. I hope you enjoy!

Happy Birthday, Dave Grohl!

Love, Coco xx

P.S. from Coco’s Mom: Music is playing in our home 24/7, but what Coco wrote is true. When we first brought her home from the hospital, I would put on everything from the Beatles, to jazz, and Jack Johnson, but the only sound that would soothe her was music by Foo Fighters. Up until her arrival, we were only “radio fans” of their music, we liked them, but saying we loved them would be a stretch. That’s of course until Coco turned us on to them, now it’s almost impossible not to love a band that brought so much happiness to the person we love most in the world. And for that, I am grateful. Over the years, we’ve had the pleasure of getting to know them, meet them, being guests of their shows, and I have to say, they made music fun again. It’s good to be a Foo Fighter fan.
